JACOB & CO. – ASTRONOMIA SOLAR Planet Edition

JACOB & CO.ASTRONOMIA SOLAR Planet Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon Gold Limited Edition

ASTRONOMIA SOLAR

After 2 years of development, Jacob & Co. introduces at Baselworld the Astronomia Solar featuring the eight planets of our solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

Jacob & Co. pushed the Astronomia experience into a 44.5mm case: the Astronomia Solar, a movement of 34.55mm diameter and 439 components in constant bi-directional rotation and a representation of the solar system, enhancing even more the celestial reality.

The vertically built Jacob & Co. manufacture caliber JCAM19 boasts 3 arms:
  • The first arm holds the hour & minute dial made of sapphire, it rotates counter-clockwise to ensure that 12 o’clock is always in the correct position, regardless of where the subdial is, thanks to a patented differential system.
  • The second arm holds a two axes (10 min/60seconds) gravitational flying tourbillon decorated with a Jacob & Co. logo on its cage.
  • The third arm holds an hand-engraved globe of the Earth rotating around its own axis in 60 seconds and completing one full revolution of the dial in 10 minutes
The center of the movement is adorned with a Citrine Jacob cut® of approx. 1.5ct.

The bi-directional movement rotates clockwise to complete a full 360 degree revolution in just ten minutes, the aventurine base rotates in the opposite direction at exactly the same speed, creating an accelerated, stylized view of the solar system.

The idea behind the Jacob & Co. Astronomia collection has always been to highlight, in a playful and suitably gem-set environment, the place of the Earth in our solar system. Creating a zero gravity effect. It is, after all, the very foundation of our concept of time. In the Astronomia Solar, all eight planets in the solar system are given a place on the dial for the first time, with the sun at the center in the form of a 1.5ct Citrine with the unmistakable Jacob Cut® and its 288 facets.

The hand-engraved globe of the Earth rotates about its own axis once every 60 seconds and completes one full revolution of the dial in 10 minutes, as part of an assembly that also houses the subsidiary hour and minute dial and a one-minute flying tourbillon.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The reduced case size, new functions and faster rotation speed are all made possible by an entirely new in-house movement. The hand-wound Jacob & Co. calibre JCAM19 beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), which is faster than any of the other Astronomia models.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Yet in spite of its smaller diameter, at just 34.55mm, it actually comprises 447 components, excluding the precious and semi-precious stones, which is more than in the other Astronomia models.

Continuing the Astronomia tradition of an abstract depiction of the universe that combines high-end Swiss watchmaking with Jacob Arabo’s talent for sourcing and his innovation in cutting the finest gemstones, the new Astronomia Solar expands the horizons both literally and figuratively.

Jaquet Droz – GRANDE SECONDE Moon Black Enamel

Jaquet DrozGRANDE SECONDE Moon Black Grand Feu Enamel Dial Gold 43mm

A LUNAR MARVEL
A finely crafted timepiece gleaming
with romance pays homage to the moon.

The Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel tells a story that precedes the dawn of time, harking back to when the Moon was Man’s sole measure of the passing months.

Part of the Grande Seconde collection, this model featuring a black enamel dial is to make its debut at Baselworld 2018. Enhanced with a moon phase complication, the model acknowledges the significance of the lunar cycle to watchmakers, and pays homage to the mysterious and complex choreography that links Earth to Sun and Moon to Earth.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch is a technical and artistic triumph, representing the phases of the lunar cycle from the new moon to the last quarter, while staying true to the clean aesthetic of the Grande Seconde collection and the signature Jaquet Droz figure 8. The lunar spectacle of the double-level dial in black Grand Feu enamel – with its applied satin-finish ring, 18-carat red gold star appliques, and 22-carat gold moon crowning a black onyx moon disk – houses an extraordinary treasure of watchmaking.

The self-winding mechanical movement of the watch harnesses the marvelous properties of silicon, one of the most innovative materials in contemporary watchmaking. Silicon is friction-resistant and corrosion-resistant, meaning the moon phase in this Grande Seconde Moon is a “true” Moon.

The fruit of a unique mechanism developed by Jaquet Droz, the moon phase requires correction only once every 122 years. The Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel is part of a legacy of the most sophisticated watches in existence, and is complemented by an incomparably graceful dial.

Technical prowess enhances the elegance of the timepiece with an 18-carat red gold case and black rolled-edge alligator strap. A hand indicates the date, and the astronomical moon phases at 6 o’clock can be set using the corrector at 8 o’clock.

In this model, Jaquet Droz craftsmanship showcases a sense of wonder and excitement that is rarely experienced. Acknowledging the origins of watchmaking in mystical astral phenomena, it returns to the human desire to make sense of the movements of the stars, which evolved into our present-day marking of time. This model features a diameter of 43 mm and a power reserve of 68 hours. The timepiece promises to delight its owner, unveiling a celestial fragment at every glimpse, and weaving with every second the very fabric of time.

Some watches tell time, some tell a story.”

Carl F. Bucherer – MANERO Flyback Black Dial Steel 43

Carl F. BuchererMANERO Flyback Black Dial Steel 43 mm

MANERO FLYBACK
A MODERN TAKE ON A RETRO STYLE

Carl F. Bucherer is expanding its successful Manero Flyback collection by adding a new retro-style version. The striking chronograph with flyback function is designed for sophisticates wanting to showcase a piece of the pinnacle of the art of Swiss watchmaking from Lucerne. The watch boasts surprising elements such as the bold yet subtle combination of colors on its stainless steel case with silver-colored totalizators, accents of red, and a golden brown kudu-leather strap.

May 2018. The retro style of the Manero Flyback family is highlighted even more with this new edition. Inspired by Carl F. Bucherer models from the 1960s and 1970s, the latest Manero Flyback features a bold yet subtle combination of colors in the form of a black dial with silver-colored totalizators. Fine touches of red complete the harmonious contrast.

The retro style is continued even throughout the new-style strap. The suede finish of the golden brown kudu-leather strap gives it an extremely natural appearance while ensuring optimum comfort for the wearer. The impressive timepiece houses the intricate CFB 1970 chronograph caliber featuring the namesake flyback function.

A Little Piece of Home

Strongly committed to embracing its rich heritage, Carl F. Bucherer launched a global campaign last year featuring the slogan “Wherever time takes you, Lucerne travels with you.

” Those with a truly global net-work who feel at home around the world value the Manero Flyback as a stylish ambassador of the city of Lucerne – a little piece of home that accompanies them wherever they go.

Modern Retro Style

Another version featuring exciting contrasting colors in a subtle stainless steel case is now joining the six unique luxury watches in the Manero Flyback collection. The deep black dial gleams with a sunburst finish, while the recessed, matte silver small-seconds and stop minute subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock provide a striking contrast. Lancet-shaped, polished steel-colored hands that correspond to the appliquéd indices display hours and minutes. An additional unique attribute is the contrast of the red stop second hand and black small-seconds and minutes counter hands.

The printed chapter ring and the tachymeter scale, which allows for speeds to be determined, are painted red and white. The new model’s retro look is completed by a kudu-leather strap in golden brown with a suede finish. As with all the other members of the chronograph collection, the new timepiece shares the typical Manero family design vocabulary – it is classically round with a diameter of 43 millimeters, in line with current trends.

The Art of Swiss Watchmaking

The caliber of the Manero Flyback is the highly complex CFB 1970 chronograph, which can be admired through the see-through sapphire-crystal case back, oscillating at a frequency of 4 hertz or 28,800 beats per hour. This automatic movement boasts a power reserve of 42 hours and features a flyback function that allows for the recording of consecutive times in quick succession.

The recording of short times operates via a thermally blued gear wheel. Time may be fast moving for people who travel the world professionally and privately, but wherever they go, they always have a piece of the pinnacle of the art of Swiss watchmaking from Lucerne on their wrist with a Manero Flyback.

ORIS – Big Crown ProPilot Alarm Edition

ORIS Big Crown ProPilot Alarm steel 44mm Limited Edition

Sound the alarm

Oris revives one of its most historic complications,
the mechanical alarm, for a new generation of watch lovers

Hölstein, Switzerland – Few watch complications communicate the romance of a luxury Swiss timepiece with the clarity of a mechanical alarm. Oris first made mechanical alarms in the 1940s, a tradition revived this year in the Big Crown ProPilot Alarm Limited Edition. The new watch is based on Oris’s Big Crown ProPilot, the independent Swiss company’s iconic pilot’s watch.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The stories of Oris and aviation are closely linked. Oris was founded in 1904 at the dawn of aviation, and made its first pilot’s pocket watch in the early 1910s. That was followed by the company’s first pilot’s wristwatch in 1917, a watch that featured an ingenious mechanism that meant the watch could only be adjusted when a button was pressed at 2 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The same spirit of invention inspired the Oris Big Crown, which debuted in 1938. Its oversized crown meant gloved airmen could adjust their watches quickly and easily. Today, Oris’s pilot’s watch collection is full of innovative watches that are trusted by pilots all over the world.

The Big Crown ProPilot Alarm Limited Edition is the latest expression of Oris’s pilot’s watch tradition. The watch has two distinctive features. The first is its alarm, indicated by a central pointer hand with a bright yellow tip. The alarm can be set to the nearest 10 minutes against a scale that runs around the outside of an aperture in the middle of the dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

That aperture houses the watch’s second key feature, a circular date display. Underneath it is a rotating disc with a yellow date marker that makes a full tour of the dial once every 31 days. Both functions are powered by the watch’s Swiss Made automatic movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Aesthetically, the Big Crown ProPilot Alarm Limited Edition is based on the familiar design of the Big Crown ProPilot. In this case, the watch has two stainless steel oversized crowns, one to set the time (between 2 and 3 o’clock ) and a second to set the alarm (between 3 and 4 o’clock ). Both crowns are made of stainless steel and screw in to ensure the watch’s water resistance to 10 bar (100 metres).

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Otherwise, the watch retains the now instantly recognisable ProPilot look. Its signature bezel motif is inspired by jet engine turbine blades; the classic round stainless steel case and tapered lugs give the watch its stylish gait; and the fundamental dial design elements, such as the straight-edged hour and minute hands and large, luminescent Arabic numerals, remain clear and functional.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch’s case back is embossed with the Oris shield and engraved with a limited edition number – only 250 pieces will be made, making this a hugely collectible Oris watch. It comes on a dark brown croco leather strap with a stainless steel folding clasp.

The Oris Big Crown ProPilot Alarm Limited Edition is a contemporary expression of the Oris legend that will go down in the company’s history.

LAURENT FERRIER – GALET Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green

LAURENT FERRIERGALET Micro-RotorMontre Ecole” British Racing Green

Laurent Ferrier is glad to participate in the London Craft Week 2018, the event showcasing exceptional and innovative British and international craftsmanship. To celebrate Britishness, Laurent Ferrier drew inspiration from his other passion alongside watchmaking: race driving.

When he was a boy, Laurent Ferrier was impressed by race cars not only for their performance but also for their design. He had a poster in his bed room featuring the Triumph Spitfire racing in Le Mans. Laurent Ferrier recalls: “To me, it was the most beautiful car ever. I wanted to drive it so badly! I was also completely devoted to its shapes and of course the color was striking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The British racing green takes its name from the green international motor racing color of the United Kingdom used till the end of 60’s. At that time, race cars were designed and built by incredible craftsmen. The idea of creating a Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green became obvious to pay a tribute to craftsmanship in the London Craft Week.

The dial is lacquered as cars used to be. The silver sub-dial reminds of car rims. The leather strap is inspired by the bonnet straps that were very common in the 60’s. The railroad and the hour markers are a nod to speedometer. For this very special timepiece, Laurent Ferrier chooses the “School Piece” case because it offers a wider view on this exclusive dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

On the movement side, the traditional Côte de Genève motif complements this elegant design.

The Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green cultivates this distinction by featuring three exclusive characteristics:

⦁    A micro-rotor pawl-fitted automatic winding system fixed between the main plate and the micro-rotor bridge
⦁    A silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance
⦁    A silent block shock protection system for the micro-rotor

A global approach

The harmonious construction of this Caliber FBN 229.01 stems from the global approach envisaged for each of the movement parts, from development through to realization. The technical specifications are extremely rigorous, since Laurent Ferrier refuses any compromises in this domain.

The automatic winding system was invented in the late 18th century and takes advantage of the watch wearer’s arm movements to wind the barrel spring and thus store up the energy required to run the mechanism. The device has been constantly used and enhanced ever since.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Laurent Ferrier wanted to create a movement with a micro-rotor and a comfortable power reserve.

To achieve this implied finding a system ensuring perfect winding in order to compensate for the lower inertia of a small oscillating weight. In fact a micro-rotor needs as twice as many rotations (300vs. 150) needed for one complete turn of the ratchet wheel.

The escapement with double direct impulse on the balance

This exclusive silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance is inspired by the father of modern horology, Abraham-Louis Breguet. This modern construction, associated with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises the restitution of energy. The excellent efficiency of this escapement serves to reduce the torque required to wind the mainspring and hence optimises the
movement winding.

Superlative finishing

The exceptional finishing of the movement is crafted in the finest watchmaking traditions in Laurent Ferrier’s Geneva workshops. In addition to a Côte de Genève pattern on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the flanks are hand-drawn, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The mirror polishing done by hand on the pawl, the balance-clock and the micro-rotor bridge, as well as the guilloché motif on the 18-carat solid gold micro-rotor, give this model an entirely distinctive radiance. The sapphire crystal case-back provides a glimpse of the finesse of this workmanship and reveals harmonious architecture stemming from a clever combination of lines and curves.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green is fitted with a dark brown leather strap. A pin buckle matching the colour of the case sets a refined finishing touch. The case-back is snap-fastened and can be removed by the watchmaker thanks to the olivette. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 meters.
